Survey and evaluation of Public Education Initiatives

The spreadsheet attached to this page represents the findings of a survey of education initiatives that are relevant to the issue of coastal erosion and flooding in the UK.

The work was undertaken in the Autumn of 2010, and does not therefore include anything published after that time. It is a thorough review, but we recognise that it cannot be exhaustive and that it is  likely that some resources have been missed. However, we would like to point out that if we have not been able to find them, then they will be limited in their impact!

Each resource has been evaluated against the first version of a Coastal Literacy framework that has been devised by CoastNet and which provides a balanced reference framework for education regarding the coast. There is now a later version of the Coastal Literacy Framework, which is avaliable for download elsewhere on this site.

Most of the education resources discovered took a largely environmental perspective. Those five that best reflected the broader social/economic/environmental perspective that coastal literacy promotes have been highlighted in the spreadsheet.
